Our home education programme gives you the options that you need to create a bespoke experience for your child whilst remaining affordable.
There are day time and evening sessions available plus a range of subjects to keep your child engaged in their education.
Choose to cover the core subjects or go further and enrich with Arts and Humanities for a more holistic approach.

Where can I get official guidance?
The best starting points are:
• GOV.UK – Educating your child at home.
• Department for Education – Elective Home Education guidance for parents.
Many local authorities also have Elective Home Education advisers who can explain local arrangements and signpost support.

About Home Education
Starting your home education journey can feel exciting, overwhelming, and full of questions. The good news is that you don't need to have everything figured out on day one. Home education is a flexible and personalised approach that allows your child to learn in a way that works best for them.
At Smart Session Tutoring, we support families by providing structured lessons, expert teaching, and guidance alongside your home education programme.
Can the council check?
Your local authority can make enquiries if it needs to satisfy itself that your child is receiving a suitable education. They may ask you for information about what and how your child is learning. Some local councils offer fantastic support and will work in parternship with you.
However, they cannot routinely:•
Insist on entering your home.
• Insist on seeing your child.
• Insist on a particular curriculum or teaching method.
If they believe a suitable education is not being provided, they can ultimately begin the process that could lead to a school attendance order.
Who do I need to tell?
If you are in England:
If your child is currently at a mainstream school:
• Write to the headteacher stating that you are withdrawing your child for elective home education.
• The school must remove your child from the admissions register.
• The school will notify the local authority.
If your child has never been registered at a school:
• Traditionally, there has been no legal requirement to notify anyone.
• However, the law is changing. The Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 introduces a register of children not in school. Some provisions are being brought into force over time. Check your local authority's current requirements before starting home education.
If your child attends a special school:
• You generally need your local authority's permission before removing them from the school roll.
What are the rules for home education?
You must provide an education that is:
• Suitable for your child's age, ability and aptitude.
• Appropriate for any special educational needs they have.
• Full-time (although this does not mean following school hours or a school timetable).
You do not have to:
• Follow the National Curriculum.
• Teach the same subjects as schools.
• Employ qualified teachers.
• Carry out SATs or GCSEs (although many home-educated children choose to take GCSEs privately).

As a Science Teacher with Physics as specialism, Dan has worked at senior leader level for more than 20 years. Over those decades, Dan has supported hundreds of children through their studies.
Miranda is an experienced English teacher with over 10 years of classroom experience in the UK and abroad. Miranda brings valuable experience of curriculum development combined with a passion for effective engagement.
